1/29/2024 0 Comments Freenas plex media server setupNow we need to move our FreeNas Plex configuration (that we transferred from FreeNAS previously to the ‘backuptars’ directory) to take the place of the Plex Media Server directory we just renamed. We need to rename the existing Plex Media Server Directory that is already here. # cd /mnt/user/appdata/binhex-plexpassġ4. Using the terminal shell on the Unraid host, go to the location where the plex configuration data resides: First stop the container that is running using the UnraidUI – click the STOP ALL button:ġ3. We will need to overwrite this with the data we transferred over from FreeNAS. This is where the new Plex metadata resides. Notice that /config is mapped to /mnt/user/appdata/binhex-plexpass, as shown below:ġ2. In order to map the right container paths to where things are stored on the Unraid directory, we need to change the host path as shown, and then save and apply.ġ1. Once installed and started, you should see the below in the Docker section of Unraid.ġ0. From the Plugins section in Unraid, just add the Community Applications plug-inįor more information, please see the Unraid forum post:ĩ. I used the ‘Community Applications’ plugin by Andrew Zawadzki to make this easy.ħ. Next we need to setup a Docker container on Unraid that will be our new Plex media server. # rsync -auP plexmedia :/mnt/disk2/plexmedia/Ħ. The below command assumes our media is stored in a directory called ‘plexmedia’ and that this will be moved to a share called ‘plexmedia’ on Unraid. We can use the same rsync command to move the Media directory. Assuming this is also going to be moving to Unraid, we need to make sure this too has been shipped from FreeNAS to Unraid. We also need to decide where the media itself is going to be stored. # rsync -auP PlexMediaServer_backup.tar :/mnt/disk1/data_migrate/backuptarsĥ. If you use other accounts, make sure you substitute these for ‘root’ used in this how-to… Note also that I use the root account on both FreeNAS and Unraid. If you don’t have one, use the IP address of your server. Note that I have a local DNS that resolves ‘unraid’ to its IP address. My Unraid server is called ‘unraid’ and the location I will store it in is called ‘backuptars’. Once the Plex directory has been tarred up using the above command, we use rsync to transfer it to the Unraid server. # tar -cvf PlexMediaServer_backup.tar “Plex Media Server”Ĥ. This needs to be tarred up before being transferred to the Unraid server. The ‘Plex Media Server’ directory contains all the Plex config data and database files. # cd /mnt/MEDIA/iocage/jails/plex-plexpass/rootģ. Using a terminal shell on the FreeNAS host: In my case, my jail is called ‘plex-plexpass’ and my iocages live on a pool called ‘MEDIA’. On the FreeNAS shell, locate your Plex Media Server Jail and its plex related data. In the Plex webUI, open the settings and uncheck ‘empty trash after each rescan’. From the dashboard screen, select “ Apps”, located in the left-side menu.Migrating PLEX MEDIA SERVER from a FreeNAS Jail to Unraid Dockerġ. Here is everything you need to do to install Plex on TrueNas and have the working TrueNAS Plex server up and running.įirst, you need to log in to TrueNas. Whether you accidentally delete files or have a change of heart, you will be able to perform TrueNAS data recovery. TrueNAS has powerful data recovery capabilities. When you run a Plex TrueNAS setup, you won’t have to worry about losing your favorite media. You can have all your favorite Movies, TV Shows, Documentaries, Docu-Series, or Anime on one screen and accessible on your favorite device. Plex and TrueNAS allow you to create a centralized media library. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions below to have it up and running in a few minutes. You don’t have to be an expert or have experience using TrueNAS or Plex to complete the setup. Here are the most noteworthy ones that, as someone who likes to stream media on devices on the local network, you might find compelling to Plex setup on TrueNAS. There are many benefits of TrueNAS and Plex.

1/29/2024 0 Comments Fabled lands dice neededYou can modify dice rolls by +/-1 for each Edge used. I borrowed something from the Shadowrun RPG called 'Edge'. Any more requires an inventory slot ( stuffing 10 grand in a bag to keep your coin purse usable) to hold the $10,000 (only $3,000 in a Padded Belt slot). For every advantage you give yourself, find some small penalty even if it is just paying for services rendered. Alternatively, 'hire a carriage' to move from city to city for 5-10 shards. Safer and faster then using your own boat. Instead of 'fast travel', go to the local docks and hire a boat to take you someplace close. Requires exotic ingredients and multiple blessings to create, different stuff required for different items. Very expensive to create and to resurrect (not a strong connection). If you want a special item to be resurrected, you have to give it a Name and a Soul. Must also pay for upkeep and crew wages (5/10/15 % of net income). An Excellent crew keeps it safe, others slight chance of theft (3 or 5 on 3d6). ( Should require something else maybe fresh scorpion venom?) Padded Belt goes in an inventory slot.Īny boat you own adds 2/4/6 personal storage slots in your cabin. Losing some excess shards or items is not a big deal later on ( could have opened up my own shop!)Īdded a custom Padded Belt to securely hold six small items ( potion, keys, map, etc) can be bought in Venefax marketplace for $1200. Roleplay it a little bit to make the world more alive. Instead of just zero robberies, hire the neighbors to watch your place. I know of at least two locations you can keep your stuff completely safe. This is soon offset by learning more about the lay of the land where are safe ports, best places to get stuff, etc. Actually, I've sometimes wondered about replacing the combat system of one of these books with something more dynamic, such as Savage Worlds.įabled Lands has a well deserved reputation for being somewhat difficult, at least when first starting a character. At the end of the adventure, I consider it a win if I have a positive number.įor Fabled Lands, I think your ideas look fine to me! Anything to help you enjoy the books better is a win, in my book. If I win a fight, I gain a success point. In other words, fail outcomes based on bad dice rolls or "Whoops, you turned left, a random and unpredictable cave-in kills you! Too bad, start over!"įor the former, I just turn back to the last choice and go a different way with absolutely no feeling of guilt.Īs for the dice rolls, I think the dramatic question in combat should be "what does it cost to win this fight?" not "Will you survive this fight?" So I tend to use my own homebrewed success rating, where every time I "lose" a fight I reset my HP to 1/2 then lose a success point. I don't know if I've ever played a gamebook "as written." I find fail outcomes not tied to bad decision-making to be not interesting. Fast travel permitted through fully explored routes Up to 5 carried possessions can be protected in a ‘lose all possessions’ outcome (excluding shards)Ħ. All temples can arrange resurrections (mirror Tyrnai pricing)ĥ. Stored possessions can be accessed from all owned townhouses (excluding shards)Ĥ. SO, for anyone that wants a more forgiving ruleset, I’ve written the below on a post-it and put it in the rules sections of my books.Īlso interested to hear of other rule modifications that I’ve yet to consider!ģ. I know that modifying rules can be controversial, but I also think it’s better to agree on a set of rules upfront rather than allowing yourself to ‘cheat’ in the moment. To add to that, most challenge requirements are so high that even my highest skills often require an average or better roll to succeed. For example, the negative outcome for a roll in Fabled Lands is very frequently “lose all your possessions / money”. I love the game book concept/format, but sometimes they can feel really punishing. I’m just starting the Fabled Lands series now. Hey, guys - first, I want to say that I’m pretty new to game books, having only read the first Bloodsword and played the first 3 Sorcery! apps. 1/29/2024 0 Comments Itrace fresh( B) Modeled (purple) and observed ice core δ 18 O at Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) (black) ( 13) and GRIP (gray) ( 49). ( A) Climate forcings including June solar insolation at 60°N (red), CO 2 concentration (green), meltwater forcing at the Northern Hemisphere (blue) and the Southern Hemisphere (orange). Water isotope–climate evolution during the last deglaciation. Here, combining climate proxies with transient isotope-enabled climate model simulations, we resolve this puzzle and suggest that the HS1 cooling did occur but was not recorded in ice core δ 18 O. This apparent lack of δ 18 O response over Greenland has led to the speculation that Greenland did not cool during HS1, implying a decoupling of the Arctic from hemispheric climate trends ( 16). 1E) ( 15) to Asian monsoon speleothem calcite isotope δ 18 O c ( Fig. 1, E and F) ( 9, 10), from North Atlantic sea surface temperature (SST) ( Fig. This is in contrast to other proxies across the Northern Hemisphere ( Fig. Here, we focus on the last Heinrich event, the HS1, a period of weakened AMOC from 18 to 14.7 ka before present (BP) ( 11), which contains the abrupt Heinrich event 1 ice-rafted debris layers around 16.2 ka BP ( 12), while Greenland δ 18 O shows virtually no depletion signal around the HS1 onset at ~18 ka BP ( Fig. These events occur coherently in Northern Hemisphere proxy records ( Fig. Northern Hemisphere climate during the last deglaciation was punctuated by abrupt events such as Heinrich Stadial 1, Bølling-Allerød warming (BA 14.7 to 12.9 ka), and Younger Dryas cooling (YD 12.9 to 11.7 ka). These contrasting observations raise a fundamental question: Was Greenland climate not affected by Heinrich variability, or was Heinrich variability not recorded in Greenland δ 18 O? Consequently, the commonly used Greenland event stratigraphy ( 8) only identifies DO stadial-interstadial transitions but not Heinrich stadials. This contrasts proxies for Atlantic circulation and temperature ( 5, 6) and Asian monsoon ( 7) that show clearly distinct signatures of the Heinrich stadials. However, Greenland δ 18 O fails to differentiate the DO and Heinrich stadials from similar δ 18 O levels in Heinrich stadials and regular DO stadials. Greenland ice core δ 18 O of water isotopes is a commonly used proxy for site temperature due to the “temperature effect” ( 4) and has been considered as a key index that records abrupt climate changes around the Arctic region. Heinrich stadials are generally believed to represent more-complete AMOC shutdown and, thus, more-extreme winter cooling than DO stadials ( 3). Glacial periods exhibit Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) and Heinrich modes of abrupt climate variability, both of which are linked to changes in Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) ( 1, 2). Our work suggests that Greenland δ 18 O may substantially underestimate temperature variability during cold glacial conditions. In contrast, the Arctic summer warmed during HS1 and YD because of increased insolation and greenhouse gases, consistent with snowline reconstructions. However, this cooling signal in the depleted oxygen isotopic composition is completely compensated by the enrichment because of the loss of winter precipitation in response to sea ice expansion associated with AMOC slowdown during extreme glacial climate. Here, combining proxy records with an isotope-enabled transient deglacial simulation, we propose that a substantial HS1 cooling onset did indeed occur over the Arctic in winter. However, one long-standing puzzle is the apparent absence of the onset of the Heinrich Stadial 1 (HS1) cold event around 18 ka in Greenland ice core oxygen isotope δ 18 O records, inconsistent with other proxies. Abrupt climate changes during the last deglaciation have been well preserved in proxy records across the globe. Most multiplayer card games can be scaled up or down to accommodate more or fewer players and the games mentioned here are no exception. They range from the straightforward to the complex, and all can be played with a standard 52-card deck. If you decide to play them, I hope they serve you similarly well. I'm passionate about a wide variety of games, whether they be board, tabletop or card games, and the ones listed here are what I've played most often and that bring back the best memories. I was six years old when I played my first card in a game of Crazy Eights, and I've dealt countless hands since then. For me, card games were integral to my childhood: I grew up playing cards with my parents and three siblings. They're social, portable and inexpensive (unless you're gambling with money), and the rules are easy to learn. Before you select a game, consider whether this is the main event or a clever way to pass the time.Card games have entertained people for centuries and have always been a great way to pass time. However, you can complete a round of Clue in no time. Time CommitmentĪnyone who has ever played Monopoly or Settlers of Catan knows it can take the entire night to complete one game. Some games may combine both aspects, but in general, those that require strategy and knowledge will fire up the competitive stakes the most. Think about if you really want to challenge your guests or if you just want them to have a good time. Some games have higher stakes than others. More times than not, that will let you know whether a game is family-friendly or adult-approved. As a general rule of thumb, look to the age requirements on the box. Having several different games on hand is always a good idea, too.īefore you select the perfect game, think about your pool of players and consider their age and comprehensive levels. When picking your game, double-check the size of the party you’re hosting as well as the age of your attendees. Some games can be played with as few as two players while others are better with a large crowd. Since nobody wants to sit on the sidelines, it's important to find a game that can accommodate everyone. What to Look for in a Party Board Game Number of Players Number of Players: 2-6 | Duration: 60-180 minutes | Recommended Age: 8 years and up This highly competitive, family-friendly game can take several hours to complete and can be played with two to six players. And, for those who remember getting stuck with the less-than-exciting thimble, shoe, or wheelbarrow tokens, this version features a few new tokens (a Rubber Ducky, T-Rex, and Penguin). For example, the addition of Monopoly Cards (these cards are replacing Chance and Community Chance Cards) which are essentially the same but the new "Location spots" allow you to pay to move to any space on the board. This version includes a few new upgrades, though. Players still have the opportunity to purchase property and charge one another rent, and the game ends when you own enough properties to bankrupt your opponents. This slightly updated edition of Monopoly has the same premise as the original-race to purchase property and amass more than your opponents. Not exactly the same as the original version Number of Players: 3-4 | Duration: 60-90 minutes | Recommended Age: 10 years and up Still, there are plenty of opportunities to replay this pick and try out different strategies and methods. Users love the more family-friendly version of the classic game but note that it is definitely not as extensive as the original. The game relies on tactical thinking and decision-making, and while it is competitive, it ends up pitting players against the game rather than each other. The first player to 10 points wins the game. Each player gets a color-coded settlement, road, and city pieces, and earns “victory points” as they build various structures. The board is made up of 19 hexagonal tiles that are arranged randomly at the beginning of each game-making sure that no two games are ever the same. This adventure-based board game requires players to battle it out to collect resources and build the biggest settlements on the island of Catan. Settlers of Catan has been translated into over 30 different languages, so it’s safe to say this one appeals to a range of audiences.

I thought it was 30 to 50 years or even longer away. “The idea that this stuff could actually get smarter than people - a few people believed that,” Hinton said in the interview. In the interview with the Times, Hinton echoed concerns about AI’s potential to eliminate jobs and create a world where many will “not be able to know what is true anymore.” He also pointed to the stunning pace of advancement, far beyond what he and others had anticipated. In early tests and a company demo, GPT-4 was used to draft lawsuits, pass standardized exams and build a working website from a hand-drawn sketch. In March, some prominent figures in tech signed a letter calling for artificial intelligence labs to stop the training of the most powerful AI systems for at least six months, citing “profound risks to society and humanity.” The letter, published by the Future of Life Institute, a nonprofit backed by Elon Musk, came just two weeks after OpenAI announced GPT-4, an even more powerful version of the technology that powers ChatGPT. OpenAI, Microsoft and Google are at the forefront of this trend, but IBM, Amazon, Baidu and Tencent are working on similar technologies. The wave of attention around ChatGPT late last year helped renew an arms race among tech companies to develop and deploy similar AI tools in their products. Hinton’s decision to step back from the company and speak out on the technology comes as a growing number of lawmakers, advocacy groups and tech insiders have raised alarms about the potential for a new crop of AI-powered chatbots to spread misinformation and displace jobs. “We’re continually learning to understand emerging risks while also innovating boldly.” “We remain committed to a responsible approach to AI,” Dean said in a statement provided to CNN. Jeff Dean, chief scientist at Google, said Hinton “has made foundational breakthroughs in AI” and expressed appreciation for Hinton’s “decade of contributions at Google.” “I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google,” Hinton said in a tweet. In a tweet Monday, Hinton said he left Google so he could speak freely about the risks of AI, rather than because of a desire to criticize Google specifically. “I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have,” Hinton told the New York Times, which was first to report his decision. He worked part-time at Google for a decade on the tech giant’s AI development efforts, but he has since come to have concerns about the technology and his role in advancing it. Hinton’s pioneering work on neural networks shaped artificial intelligence systems powering many of today’s products. The video isn’t so much a lament that the end is nigh, more a look back at humanity's best times on planet Earth, as well as some of the major screw ups we have had over the years.Geoffrey Hinton speaks during The International Economic Forum of the Americas Toronto Global Forum in Toronto, Canada, in 2019. And if you’re watching this, the end of times are upon us.” To just watch the video skip to 2:30 or else you can listen to Oliver making fun of CNN for two and a half minutes. Whilst he promised to 'broadcast until the apocalypse', we highly doubt that the last thing viewers wold want to watch is a grainy video of military band play ‘Nearer my God to thee’.īut fear not, John Oliver has come to the rescue yet again with his own Doomsday video, with a little help from everyones favourite American president, Martin Sheen.

If you went looking for a deal and got scammed on eBay by a seller instead, it's not a lost cause. The most devious criminals find ways to avoid eBay’s buyer protection features and get would-be buyers to send them either money that can’t be refunded or sensitive information that can be used for identity theft. While online marketplaces, such as eBay, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace, can be great resources to locate deals or difficult-to-find items, these sites can also attract con artists and scammers.
